Are you effectively protecting your Spiritual life?
How? What does that look like?
How are you protecting your identity in Christ?
These are questions we need to answer.
We can put metal bars on the windows of our house, if we really needed to. Look, I know some people have video surveillance in their house. And it isn’t uncommon for us to see cameras at the entrance of most establishments. We all know the reason why. There is something on the inside that they deem valuable. There is something on the inside which they do not want to lose. There is something on the inside, which they want to protect.
But let me ask you a question. What are you doing to protect your most valuable possession?
What am I talking about?
Your spiritual life!
Jesus says in John 14:26, “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
Romans 8:26 says, “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
2 Corinthians 3:17 says, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
In the book of Job, Elihu says, ‘The breath of the Almighty gives me life.’
When God breathes His spirit into you, at that point of salvation, you become spiritually alive. Not just you. But we. We now have the ability to love Him, serve Him, and bring pleasure to Him. That is what we need to protect! Because that’s what the enemy is after – the part of God that’s inside you! That connection! That relationship!
We’ve got to be alert. The enemy will try a lot of things to get to it. Your body, he will attack. Your mind, he will wage war against. Self-control will become a thing of the past as he throws negative habits, doubts, and fears into your life.
How? How can he do this?
Unfortunately, he will even work through people, including close friends and family members. Yes, even the ones who we care about.
Now, I think it’s time for a shift in mindset.
We need to change how we view ourselves.
How we view our spiritual lives!
When God breathed into Adam, he became alive!
He recognised who he was and what he was called to do in life.
What if we could learn this lesson here?
If we do not recognise that God created and redeemed us for a purpose, other people will try to ‘breathe’ their identity and agenda into us. They will force their opinions onto us. We will wake seeking to appease them. Our main goal in life would be changing their minds, in the hope they look upon us favourably. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that is dangerous.
They say that when someone can define you, they can control you! ‘
So we finally get to this question:
How can you protect yourself?’
I’ve got 3 tips.
- Meditate on the Word, day and night (Joshua 1:8)
- Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
And then number 3…
Change your mindset. We’ve gotta live each day with a consciousness of the presence of God! Think about God…continuously. Be obsessed with the presence of God.
The psalmist said, ‘You are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings!’ (Psalm 61:3-4 ). The truth is when you’re in that sanctuary, and safe, the enemy can’t touch you. He can’t lay his hands on anything that is rightfully yours.
