Day 137/365 – Loving Your Enemies

THE WORD: MATTHEW 5:44

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

LET’S PRAY

Heavenly Father, I come before You seeking the grace to truly love my enemies and walk in the Spirit’s love. Purify my heart from any mixture of hatred or bitterness towards others. Enable me, by Your Holy Spirit, to fulfill the entire law by loving my neighbor as myself, just as Jesus commanded. Grant me the strength to love others as You have loved me, without fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

You’ve heard it said, “Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But Jesus said something profound that cuts against what you’ve been taught. He commanded, “Love your enemies.” This unveils a profound truth that the entire Bible’s teachings are fulfilled in loving others, even your enemies. The Scriptures supernaturally indebt you to love everyone, for when you love another, you’ve fulfilled the law. Loving your enemies might shock you, but it’s the heart of God’s Word. Moses’ lengthy instructions can be summarized as “love your neighbor.” The entire Old Testament law is encapsulated in one word: love. Jesus exposed the false, poisonous teaching that twisted “love your neighbor” by adding “and hate your enemy.” Any mixture with truth corrupts it.
