THE WORD: Romans 6:1-2
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
LET’S PRAY
Lord, I pray, help me to fully understand and respond to Your incredible grace, dying to sin and living a life that is pleasing to You.
Give me a deep desire to love and obey You, and enable me to reject my old self and nurture my new identity in Christ.
May Your love and grace control me, and may I become less attracted to the world and its values. Help me to live a life of love, obedience, and service to others, and may I bring glory to Your name in all that I do.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Does emphasising God’s grace give us an excuse to sin? Surely not! As Romans 6:1-2 says, “Should we keep on sinning so that God’s grace will increase? Not at all! We died to sin; how can we still live in it?”
The key phrase here is “died to sin.” As we nurture our new identity in Christ and reject our old selves, our sinful nature begins to lose its grip on us.
The apostle Paul put it this way: “For the love of Christ controls us” (2 Corinthians 5:14). He wasn’t motivated by fear of losing his salvation, but by a deep desire to respond to the incredible grace he had experienced.
As Jesus taught, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). When we truly understand God’s grace, it doesn’t lead to moral laxity, but rather inspires us to live more godly lives. Remember, you’re alive in Christ and dead to the flesh!
