THE WORD: Philippians 3:13-14
…But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I choose to let go of the guilt, shame, and regret that’s been holding me back. Help me to receive your forgiveness, and accept it with an open heart. Help me to focus on the future, to set my mind on things that bring me forward, not backward.
May I not measure myself by my past, but by your love and redemption. May I walk in the freedom and victory that you have purchased for me through the cross of Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.’
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Here’s the truth: holding on to the past holds you back from embracing the future. All it takes is the occasional reminder of what’s behind to keep you stuck. But you have the power to choose what you set your mind on.
Look at Paul’s story, for example. He used to persecute Christians. He was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen. But after meeting Jesus, he chose to leave his past behind.
n Philippians 3:13, he wrote, “I focus on this one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.”
Did Paul forget his past? No. But with God’s forgiveness, he was able to move forward. God will enable you to do the same through his grace and peace. If you’re struggling with guilt or regret, accept God’s forgiveness. He doesn’t measure you by your past, and neither should you.
