THE WORD: Matthew 26:39
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
LET’S PRAY
Lord, I’m tired of trying to control my life. Teach me what it means to truly surrender my plans and dreams to you. Show me your way and guide me. Help me trust that you’re in charge and that you know what’s best for me, even when things don’t make sense.
Give me the courage to let go of my own expectations and follow you, even when it’s hard. I want to live for you and you alone. Give me the strength and wisdom to do so. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Do you find yourself often stuck in a state of uncertainty, unsure if you’re making the right decisions? Sometimes, you experience those moments when the Holy Spirit prompts you, just like the ancient prophets. Maybe even when you feel called by God to do something, you can start to doubt yourself later on, like Gideon did? Maybe now you’ve decided it’s easier to just coast along, like the Israelites in the desert?
But here’s the thing: God has a plan. But sometimes, we need to make an effort to fall in line with it, instead of just winging it and hoping for the best. A big part of that is surrendering our own will. Jesus showed us how it’s done, saying in Matthew 26:39, “Not as I will, but as you will.” Putting God’s will above our own means letting go of our own expectations, and it’s not always easy. We’ll need some help, so let’s pray!
