THE WORD: Psalm 37:5
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I come to you, acknowledging that my own strength and self-help efforts are not enough to truly transform my life. I need your power and your help to overcome my weaknesses, to experience lasting joy and freedom, and to walk in wisdom, love, and understanding. Help me to trust in you with all my heart and I accept that it is you that would make my paths straight, guiding me according to your will.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
There’s a saying that I often need to remind myself of: “Self-help is no help without God’s help.” I’ve read a lot of self-help books, and I’ve come to realize that just like the laws given to the Israelites, they simply show us how short we fall, but they can’t give us the power to overcome our weaknesses. Many of these books encourage us to break bad habits and be more positive, but they don’t have the power to actually help us do that. The information may be useful, but without God’s help, it’s just knowledge.
However, there is hope, and we find it in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead – the most powerful event in history. Do you want lasting joy? Freedom from your old way of living? To walk in wisdom, love, and understanding? “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26)
So instead of striving in vain to change ourselves, let’s ask the Lord to help us follow the wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6, leaning not on our own understanding.
