THE WORD: Psalm 62:8
Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, teach me your love and kindness, that I will have the courage to approach You with vulnerability and deep anguish, trusting in Your faithfulness to fulfill my purest desires. Help me to remember that You are my refuge in times of despair and frustration. Lord, today, I commit to pouring out my heart to You, knowing that You understand my struggles and will bless us in Your perfect timing.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
What is it that you desire above all else in this life? A job? A house? Healing? In the book of 1 Samuel, we meet Hannah, who really was bullied because she was childless. After years of unanswered prayers, Hannah could have easily turned her frustration toward God. Instead, she remained faithful. She did not relent but intensified her plea: ‘And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if You will only look on Your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget Your servant, but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life…”’ (1 Samuel 1:11 NIV).
In moments of despair, are you tempted to find someone or something to blame? Do you question God, forgetting that, as Psalm 62:8 reminds us, He is our refuge? Hannah chose another path. She approached God with raw vulnerability and deep anguish. Her heartfelt prayers were so intense that the High Priest thought she was drunk: ‘…I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD’ (1 Samuel 1:15 NIV).
When we face trials and our desires seem out of reach, do we instinctively turn to God with this kind of vulnerability? It is challenging, but God understands our struggles. Despite Hannah’s trials, God blessed her with a son. The next time you find yourself in need, consider approaching God with the same heartfelt, soul-pouring prayer that Hannah did.
