THE WORD: Isaiah 1:17
Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I come before you, lifting up the nation of Nigeria in prayer. I ask that you would bring stability to the economy, bringing relief to the citizens who are struggling to make ends meet. I pray for comfort and provision for those who have lost loved ones during the protests, and for peace to be restored in the affected areas.
I pray for the government of Nigeria to be held accountable for their actions, and to make wise decisions that benefit the people, not just a select few. I ask that you would expose any corruption and misgovernment, and that truth and justice would prevail. I pray for the people of Nigeria to remain hopeful and united in the face of adversity.
And finally, I pray for a spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation to prevail in the nation. I ask that you would bring healing and restoration to Nigeria, and that your peace and justice would reign. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
In light of the escalating economic hardship, with annual inflation climbing up to 34.19%, its highest in almost 30 years, thousands of Nigerians have taken to the streets in protests that began on Thursday. Demonstrators across the country have voiced their frustrations, calling attention to the pervasive food shortages affecting millions. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, approximately 25% of Nigerians currently experience food insecurity, with a significant portion of the population unable to access sufficient nutrition.
Human rights organisations have reported that at least 13 individuals have tragically lost their lives in violent confrontations during protests in three northern states, highlighting the growing tensions between demonstrators and security forces. Protesters are not only demanding immediate relief from the crippling food shortages but are also expressing their outrage over widespread allegations of corruption and mismanagement within the government.
As the situation escalates, many citizens are calling for accountability and systemic change, emphasising the need for government intervention to address the root causes of the crisis and restore stability to the economy. The ongoing protests reflect a deepening dissatisfaction with the current administration’s handling of economic issues and a growing demand for transparency and effective governance.
