THE WORD: 1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I now realise that the people I surround myself with have a huge impact on my life. Help me to choose my friends wisely, rather than just accumulating relationships without thinking. Give me wisdom to understand that everything and everyone around me influences me in some way.
Protect me from the harmful influence of bad company and bad morals. Give me the courage to take a close look at my life, examining my conversations, the people I hang out with, and the kind of person I’m becoming. Help me to identify anything that has taken Your place in my life and give me the wisdom to put You first, so I can live a life that honours You.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The Bible doesn’t dance around the topic of friendships and relationships. It clearly instructs us to be very intentional about choosing our friends wisely, not just accumulating relationships haphazardly. We have to remember that the company we keep directly shapes the life we’ll live. It’s true! You may think you’re immune to outside influences, that your thinking, behaviour, and character are purely original. But the truth is, from birth, you’ve been formed by everything and everyone around you to a great degree, whether you realise it or not.
The Bible highlights how what you allow to speak into your life – whether through conversations, media, company, or other influences – has the powerful ability to either corrupt or edify you. So, take intentional time to audit your life. Carefully examine your conversations, the company you keep, and your resulting character, values, and priorities. Ask yourself, ‘Are there any idols in my life that I’ve placed above God?’ And ask the Lord to help you to be intentional about choosing my friends wisely, understanding that the company that you keep shapes your life.
