THE WORD: 1 John 4:11
Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I pray that You will teach me to love You by loving Your children. I recognize today that I need to make a conscious decision to love others and reflect Your love and light, and show my love for You through my actions towards those near me. I ask that You will guide me in understanding what it means to truly love, and that You will give me the strength to make this choice every day.
Help me to see Your children as You see them, and to love them with the same love that You have for them. Help me to prioritise loving You and Your children above all else, and to make this love a foundation of my life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Do you know that if you take a look at the 10 commandments, and generally all the commandments given to us, you’d find their fulfilment in loving God and loving people? Do you know that there is no way to truly obey God without also seeking to love each other. We cannot claim to love God and have no regard for His children. So will you choose today to care about others? Yes, choose. It’s time to understand that love is a conscious decision – a decision to give, to sacrifice. Yes, as we abide in God, who is love, we will produce fruit, which is love. But we must also know that it’s not just a feeling, but a choice we make every day.
Think of Jesus as the Sun, and you as the moon, reflecting His light. You must be positioned to reflect the love that God is shining. You are called to show this love to those near you. The Bible calls us the light of the world, but it’s not necessarily that we have a light of our own – it’s the fact that we are positioned to reflect the love that God is shining. You are not the initiator of love according to scripture, but you are called to respond to the love that Jesus has shown you.
As we pray, let’s remember that the love that sustains marriage, relationships, and communities is the conscious kind. It’s not just chemical reactions or feelings, but a choice we make every day to love and sacrifice for one another. It’s time to take our love to the next level, and to make it a priority in our lives.
