THE WORD: Matthew 13: 18-19, 23
18 “Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: 19 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts.
23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, help me to understand Your message, apply Your wisdom, and produce fruit in my life. Grant me understanding that leads to commitment, and may I abide in You, gaining wisdom and revelation of Your heart.
Help me to move from just knowing about You to experiencing Your presence and power in my life. Give me a deep understanding of Your heart and will for me, and may I be faithful to obey and apply what I know.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
As we look at Matthew 13 we’re reminded that the seed of God’s word can wither away if we don’t understand it. It’s not enough to just know something; we need to understand it. You know that the light comes on when you flick the switch, but do you understand the mechanics and intricacies of how it works? In the same way, just because you know about God doesn’t mean you understand Him.
In the verse above, a clear truth is established: the difference-maker is understanding.
Proverbs 4:7 says, ‘Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.’ Something changes when you get understanding. You move from just doing things because you were told to do them to doing them because you understand why you need to do them. And understanding comes from abiding in God.
We can’t claim to know about God if we can’t see the fruit of God in our lives. We need to move beyond just knowing about God to experiencing the fruit of God in our lives. We need to move from just knowing about God to understanding His heart and will for us. So, take a moment to pray. Remember, obedience becomes easier when you understand, and understanding becomes possible when you abide. Don’t settle for just knowing about God; seek to understand His heart and will for your life. Your freedom and deliverance depend on it.
