THE WORD: James 1:5-6
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I pray for a heart that fully understands and trusts in your generous nature. I desire to be someone who is able to ask with unwavering faith. Your word teaches me Your giving is rooted in Your love. I read that it is not dependent on my actions or my worthiness. But help me to understand this and believe it.
May I begin to approach You, from the place of a child talking to their Father, not from someone trying to earn a reward. I do not have to turn You into a giver. You are always one. Help me to accept this reality.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Accept this today: our prayers do not drive God’s giving. Instead, they reflect our understanding of His generous and unchanging nature. Why do we pray? Not to change God’s nature—He is already the ultimate Giver. We ask not to make God a good Father; He already is one, inherently and eternally. As James 1:5-6 reminds us, we ask because God is generous and gives to all without reproach.
Our prayers are not about trying to make God comply with our desires or to force His hand; they are about recognising the nature of the One we are asking from. It’s crucial to understand that prayer is not about changing God but about changing us. It aligns our hearts with His will and deepens our relationship with Him. God’s giving is an expression of His love, not a response to our perfection or merit.
This truth is echoed in John 3:16, where God gave His only Son out of love for the world, and in Ephesians 5:2, which speaks of Christ’s sacrificial love. When you approach God in prayer, do so with the confidence that His giving is rooted in His boundless love for you. Trust that His generosity flows not from our actions but from His nature. So, when you pray, let your faith be unwavering, knowing that God’s nature is unchanging, and His love for you is constant.
