THE WORD: Mark 8:36-37
For what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I pray for the strength to deny myself daily and remove any idols that hinder my relationship with You. Help me identify and eliminate any distorted views of You formed by my actions and the things I have set my gaze upon, and guide me to prioritise my soul’s prosperity over worldly desires. May the fear of the Lord guide my actions as a follower of Christ. May I have the courage to ask myself tough questions and seek Your will above all else. Help me focus on Your prosperity, which is that my soul prospers as my relationship with You prospers.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Your number one purpose in this life is to be a follower of Christ – but let’s evaluate our lives, our desires and be honest, is that really the case? Did you know that Satan doesn’t mind if you serve Jesus plus many other gods? In fact, he’s pleased with lukewarmness, which can be more damaging than openly rebellious behaviour. Think about it, if you’re serving multiple gods, you’re already giving a distorted view of who God is and what life with Him is like. You may come to church, but are you bringing your other idols with you? Are you submitting to Christ as well as the pressures of man’s opinion?
Everyday we need to ask ourselves whether we are willing to suffer for Christ and continue doing good despite opposition. I want you to take this moment to remember Jesus, who was spat on, mocked, and yet remained faithful to His Father’s business. The reason He could do that, was because He knew who and what He was living for.
What are you really living for? Why are you even a Christian? Is it to gain the whole world, only to lose your soul? Don’t be fooled. Your soul is what matters most. There’s no use in having Christ, but keeping our eyes and hands on others idols. Let’s pray to prioritise our relationship with God, remove idols, and be willing to suffer for Christ. Let’s seek the fear of the Lord to guide our actions and prosper in our souls.
