THE WORD: Matthew 9:37-38
“He said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.’”
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I thank you for the lives of those in India. I thank you for those who know you, and continue to put their lives on the line for your message. May their sacrifice not be wasted. I pray for a harvest of souls in North India, and for the Church to continue to rise up and meet this challenge. May there be a wave of revival and evangelism in India’s great cities, and for Christianity to effectively reach the urban masses.
I pray for a tenderness of heart. For a deep longing for You and for a willingness to receive the Good News. Lord, I speak unity, courage, and determination among the persecuted. May the Holy Spirit guide and empower them, and may they be a shining light in the midst of darkness. May they never feel abandoned or alone, for You are with them. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Good Morning! As we continue in our prayer for countries around the world, let us not forget the vast nation of India. With over 1.3 billion people, India is a land of immense diversity and complexity. However, India also has more unreached individuals than any other nation, and the North India region is particularly in need of our prayers. The Ganges plains, which stretch across 13 states, are home to an astonishing 382 million people. Yet, the 2001 Indian census placed Christians at just over 2% of India’s population. Reliable research puts the figure at over 6% while many in India put the figure as high as 9 or 10%.
Christians in many parts of India are witnessing a significant rise in persecution as elections continue across the country. Incidents include physical assaults, arrests based on false allegations, forced ‘reconversion’ to Hinduism and attacks on Christian institutions. Think about all the lives. Think about all of the souls. Think about all of the people who need Christ. Think about the families. Think about the future generations.
Despite what seems like a ridiculous task, there is reason to be hopeful. Church growth is happening in the North, with megachurches and networks of house churches springing up across the region. Despite persecution, the number of believers is rising. Despite the danger, people are continuing the pick up their cross! You may not feel like there is much that you can do, but let’s pray for our brothers and sisters!
