THE WORD: Ephesians 4:31-32
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, I ask that you reveal any unforgiveness in my heart. Give me the strength to forgive others, and help me understand and apply the gospel to my life. Holy Spirit, empower me to forgive, not based on my feelings, but on the work done in Christ. I am the New Man in Christ. I am forgiven. I am transformed. Help me put on the new nature in Christ and renew my mind with the truth of the gospel.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
They often say that unforgiveness is a poison that not only affects us, but also those around us. I’ve learnt that when we withhold forgiveness, we often push others back into that sin and make them doubt God’s forgiveness. They think to themselves: “if an imperfect man judges me, how can a perfect deem me worthy?” Many people have been turned away from Christ because a believer refused to forgive them.
But as Paul instructed the Corinthian believers, we are called to forgive, just as God has forgiven us through Christ. I urge you to take a moment to reflect on your heart. Are you harboring unforgiveness towards someone? Are you delaying forgiveness or waiting for them to “deserve” it? Stop and forgive them today. Remember, forgiveness is not based on your personal feelings towards the offender, but on Jesus’ actions. Let’s go back to the gospel and relearn the truth that empowers us to forgive. Let’s put on the new nature in Christ and renew our minds with the truth of the gospel.
Will you join me in praying for the strength to forgive?
