THE WORD: Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, help me understand that my peace isn’t found in things, but in You alone. Reveal to me the secret of being content in every situation, just like Paul. Give me a true revelation of Your peace, which transcends all understanding.’
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Philippians 4:4 says ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!’ But let’s be honest, it’s not always easy to rejoice, especially when life gets tough. Paul said ‘always’, but how can we do that? Especially when we read Philippians 4:12-13, where Paul talks about being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. He experienced it all – shipwrecks, abandonment, stoning, and yet he could say ‘I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.’
I want to ask you, what is this secret that Paul learned? Was it that he was satisfied being poor? Was it that he didn’t care about being full or being hungry? Or was it that his satisfaction was in something else? I believe it’s the latter. Paul’s satisfaction was in Jesus Christ alone.
Think of Jesus in the middle of the storm, in Mark 4:35-41. The windstorm arose, the waves beat into the boat, and yet Jesus was resting peacefully. What did Jesus know that allowed Him to be at peace in the midst of chaos?
I believe the Lord wants to bring us to that place of understanding, where our peace isn’t found in things, but in the Lord Jesus Christ. Peace isn’t a thing, or a feeling, it’s a person – Jesus.
