THE WORD: Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, help me to face the storms with you, rather than look for an escape. Help me to trust you in the midst of trouble. Work on my heart and my understanding, that I may know that you are with me, and that your presence is my peace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
I want to ask you, are you tired of living in fear and anxiety, constantly seeking escape from your problems? The Lord wants to address you, more than He wants to address the things that stress you. He wants you to know that His presence is your comfort, not just His ability to remove your difficulties. As Psalm 23:4 says, ‘Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.’
Let’s be honest, we often focus on the things that are stressing us, rather than focusing on God’s presence in our lives. We pray for God to remove the problem, rather than praying for God to work on our hearts and minds. But God wants to address you, more than He wants to address the thing. He wants you to understand that He is with you, and that His presence is your peace.
As Paul said, ‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength’ (Philippians 4:13). And Jesus said, ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid’ (John 14:27). Let’s pray together: ‘Lord, help me to face the storms with you, rather than look for an escape. Help me to trust you in the midst of trouble. Work on my heart and my understanding, that I may know that you are with me, and that your presence is my peace.’ I urge you to take a moment to ask God to help you understand that His presence is your peace, and that He wants to mature and change you to be like Him, rather than just removing your problems.
