THE WORD: Isaiah 55:8-9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, help me to surrender my knowledge and experiences to You. Help me to trust in Your truth and promises, even when they seem impossible. May I not make an idol of my knowledge, but instead, may I esteem Your word above all else.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Have you ever received a prophetic word or encouragement that seemed too good to be true? Did you laugh it off, thinking it was impossible for someone like you? Sarah did the same thing when God promised her a child in her old age. She couldn’t believe it, and her initial reaction was laughter and disbelief (Genesis 18:12). But God wants to address this in our lives. He wants us to remember that ‘Is anything too hard for the Lord?’ (Genesis 18:14). He wants us to surrender our knowledge and experiences to Him, and trust in His truth and promises, even when they seem impossible or contradict our reality.
As it says in Isaiah 55:8-9, ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’ Let’s pray that our knowledge will not become an idol in our lives, holding us back from receiving God’s blessings. Let’s pray that we will esteem the truth of God’s word above our own intelligence and experiences.
Just like Sarah, we often respond to God’s truth with our own limited understanding. We think, ‘How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure, especially when my master—my husband—is also so old?’ (Genesis 18:12). But God wants to show us that His ways are higher than ours, and that He can do the impossible.
So, let’s pray that we will not make an idol of our knowledge, but instead, may we esteem His word above all else. May we not respond to God’s truth with our own limited understanding, but instead, may we trust in His goodness and sovereignty.
