THE WORD: 1 John 3:16
By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, help me to believe that Your love towards me is not proven by material things or good behaviour, but by the gift of Your Son. Help me to accept that You love me despite my flaws and imperfections, and that Your love is not affected by my circumstances or situations.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
How do you know that God loves you? Not do you know I love you, but how do you know? For many of us, we’ll simply say, ‘Well, the Bible tells me so.’ But if we’re being honest, many of us have had moments where we’ve questioned His love towards us, despite knowing what the Bible says.
Perhaps we’ve struggled with sin, and we wonder, ‘Can God really love me, the way I am, the way I struggle to pray, the way I don’t obey, the way I feel?’ Or perhaps we’ve faced setbacks, failures, or disappointments that have left us questioning His love. But we need to remember that we don’t find proof of God’s love in things or situations. We don’t confirm His love by looking at what’s going on in our lives. No, God’s love is proven in one thing alone: the gift of His only Son.
John 3:16 reminds us, ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.’
So let’s pray, ‘Lord, help me to believe that Your love towards me is not proven by material things or good behaviour, but by the gift of Your Son. Help me to accept that You love me despite my flaws and imperfections, and that Your love is not affected by my circumstances or situations.’
