THE WORD: 2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father, help me to dig deeper, be honest with myself, and prepare my heart to receive Your truth. Help me to understand what drives me. I pray for the wisdom and understanding to overcome any blocks, and allow Your Word to take root in my heart.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
When Jesus asks, ‘Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?, it’s a reminder and an opportunity to dig deeper and discover what drives you and why you do what you do. It’s not that Jesus is calling you out, it’s an invitation. He wants to enlighten you, not point out your mistakes. So, take a moment to reflect on your life. Are you building your house on rock or on sand? Are there things blocking you from doing what God says? Ask yourself, ‘Why do I call Him Lord, but not do what He says?’
Remember, God is not sentencing you or passing judgement; He’s asking you why to aid you back on the right path. It’s compassion. He wants you to discover what’s really going on with you. So, consider this question: ‘How do I practically apply the question, ‘Why do you call me Lord,’ into my life?’ The answer is digging deep into your heart. There is a need for introspection, honesty, and confession.
As you sing songs, praise, and pray in church, remember that it’s not just a routine. It’s to prepare your heart to receive the truth. It should bring you to a place of vulnerability and openness. So, take a deep breath and pray.
