There are times on our journey where we feel like things are starting to slow down and become stagnant. It can be kinda confusing. After all, you’ve been attending church regularly, not just attending but enjoying it. You even read your Bible and pray regularly. But things have been kinda the same for a while.

The problem may be that you are not giving – God simply does not have that part of you. Maybe the thing you’re lacking is that ability to give your best to God up front and trust that He will provide the rest.

2 Corinthians 8:9. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

The Corinthians were not motivated to give by fear or some weird financial appeal, but really, it was by the perfect example of giving – “the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ”.

Okay we know why but how should we do this?

  1. Giving should be done silently, not so someone will see our act of worship and praise us.
  2. I’m sorry, I know a lot of people aren’t trying to hear it, but it is recommended that we consider at least the 10% imposed on God’s people, let alone the 25% or the amount that the Macedonians were giving.
  3. Giving should be a regular thing. 1 Corinthians 16:2:On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.” Paul knew that regular, systematic giving would help people meet their regular obligations.
  4. Your giving should be joyous – “for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
  5. Start now. The natural tendency is to put off giving until you’re ready to give or until you feel like you’re able to give. Really, this just stops us from ever giving.
