So, Moses had just faced immense rejection. He tried to help, and it got thrown back in his face. What would you say to him? “Ay Moses, bro. It get’s like that” “Forget the Hebrews, they didn’t deserve you” “Ah you fumbled big time bro. I mean. At least you ain’t dead. You should be, but you’re not…so there’s that”

It might sound like a joke, but the lingering effects of what had happened to Moses when he tried to act as a deliverer began to surface later in life. I said we’d skip past certain parts to save some time so refer to Exodus 2:14 to Exodus 3:9 to fill in any gaps.

Exodus 3:10-11 states:

10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

Let’s be real, rejection will do this to you. Rejection will have you losing your self-confidence, and that is why it is so important that we have confidence in God.

Remember the Moses of Past. He never had a trouble with his words. He was educated. He always had an answer. But after the rejections (Exodus 3:13): 13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”. Moses of Past would never question his abilities. Moses of Past would never hesitate. But now he does. Why? Because before he was too eager, and he had to deal with the consequences. Years later and Moses still hasn’t fully recovered from the rejection. He lost belief in himself.

But this is where God comes into the picture. 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”.

God was talking to a broken man. A man who lost all his self-confidence. But God knew that in himself, there is enough strength to carry Moses through.

Need more proof of Moses’ self-doubt. In Exodus 4:10, Moses questioned what used to be his greatest asset. His ability to speak. He lost sight of who he truly was. But God helped him stating 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

Now this is where I go back to the start where I mentioned there’ll be times where I’d like to hear other interpretations, because this is such a powerful verse.

I AM is the present tense; the eternal and everlasting God, who always lives in the present and the one who sent Moses. God is constantly looking at us in our entirety. God is not focussed on our past. God is not focussed on our future. We need to remember that our future is not God’s future. That which is going to happen for us is already happening for God.

So I’ve gotta ask you, how could you not have full confidence in what God says?
