What can we learn from Moses’ rejection?
- We are often taught by society to be self-confident. How often do we put confidence in our God-given gifts but forget to have confidence in the God who gave us the gifts? Self-confidence is often fickle and can be destroyed in a single day as seen with Moses. But confidence in God remains strong, as he will never change.
- God uses even the bad experiences to prepare us for future services. In many cases, the problem isn’t us going through the experiences, but, it’s us going through them and coming out the same way, without learning a single thing. I’m sure Moses learnt a lot from his interactions with God, and as he reflected on his decisions, we see him recover.
- God often wants us to do something with what we already have before he gives us something new. Moses had all the skills necessary due to his upbringing. But when faced with the task, he seemed to forget it and requested for help. Just like Moses, we already have the means instilled within us, and all it takes is for us to say yes.
- Obeying God leads to a new self-image. No matter the rejection, you will be accepted by God and made new. Fast forward a couple chapters and we see that the position Moses once held was returned to him, in a new form. According to Exodus 11:3 – And the Lord gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people. Moses was restored.
There were so many times where Moses could’ve fallen back into rejection. When surrounded by Pharaoh’s army, the people once again turned against Moses and accused him of bringing them into the wilderness to die like dogs. However, Moses didn’t fall back this time.
In Exodus 14:13 he states, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and watch God do his work of salvation for you today. Take a good look at the Egyptians today for you’re never going to see them again.”
What a comeback!
