“Couldn’t David just get rid of Nathan like Uriah?” “Job done!”

Well that’s the whole point. God is telling David that he can’t escape from this problem. He can get rid of Uriah. He can get rid of Bathsheba. He could even get rid of himself. But he’ll still have to answer to God.

So now it’s time for what you’ve been waiting for. Let’s see the consequences of David’s sin.

Well first of all, he did say the offender should pay back the debt fourfold. So four of his own children eventually died.

“That’s it?”

Lemme give you some details of the deaths, and maybe you’ll understand how much David and the ones he loved suffered.

First, the baby. Oh no, not the baby! The baby he conceived with Bathsheba died. Then, David’s son Amnon raped his half-sister, Tamar. Absalom, another son of David’s (Tamar’s full brother), had Amnon killed in an act of revenge (2 Samuel 13:28-29).

Damn. Wait, there’s more.

2 Samuel 12:11 says:11 “This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight.

The Lord is not liar and Absalom went and violated all of David’s wives. He then became the third son to die. I feel like his death needs to really be read because it’d be hard to believe if I simply explained it.

2 Samuel 18:9-14;Now Absalom happened to meet David’s men. He was riding his mule, and as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak, Absalom’s hair got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in mid-air, while the mule he was riding kept on going.

10 When one of the men saw what had happened, he told Joab, “I just saw Absalom hanging in an oak tree.”

11 Joab said to the man who had told him this, “What! You saw him? Why didn’t you strike him to the ground right there? Then I would have had to give you ten shekelsof silver and a warrior’s belt.”

12 But the man replied, “Even if a thousand shekelswere weighed out into my hands, I would not lay a hand on the king’s son. In our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, ‘Protect the young man Absalom for my sake.]13 And if I had put my life in jeopardy—and nothing is hidden from the king—you would have kept your distance from me.”

14 Joab said, “I’m not going to wait like this for you.” So he took three javelins in his hand and plunged them into Absalom’s heart while Absalom was still alive in the oak tree.

Finally, the last of David’s sons Adonijah was killed by Solomon.

Okay that’s tough but you said his Kingdom would fall.”

Well after the reign of Solomon the kingdom of Israel was split in two by his successors. David’s one-night stand was rally a lifetime decision.

One more part…we’re in the endgame now.
